Buell Lightning Series

     "Buell Motor Company" adalah produsen sepeda motor Amerika yang berbasis di East Troy, Wisconsin, dan didirikan pada tahun 1983 oleh mantan insinyur Harley-Davidson "Erik Buell".
     Salah satu produk andalan dari Buell adalah "Lightning". Berikut adalah beberapa model Lightning yang telah diproduksi:

S1 Lightning (1996-1998)

Buell S1 Lightning

     S1 Lightning adalah sportbike yang lebih mendasar dari pada S3 Thunderbolt dan M2 Cyclone yang dipasarkan bersama dan produksi pada model ini dihentikan pada 5000 setelah hanya 3 tahun. Varian dari versi Lightning adalah S1 Lightning (1996/1997/1998) dan S1W White Lightning (1998). S1W datang dengan tangki yang lebih besar dan kepala silinder Thunderstorm yang memberikan tambahan 10 hp (7,5 kW).

     The S1 Lightning was a more fundamental sportbike than the S3 Thunderbolt and M2 Cyclone that it was marketed alongside and the production on this model was stopped at 5000 after only 3 years. Variants of this version of the Lightning were the S1 Lightning (1996/1997/1998) and the S1W White Lightning (1998). The S1W came with a larger tank and Thunderstorm cylinder heads which gave an extra 10 hp (7.5 kW).

 X1 Lightning (1999-2002)

X1 Lightning

     X1 Lightning adalah penerus garis S1 Lightning. Mereka semua menggunakan kepala Thunderstorm, bahan bakar injeksi (Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection) dan dimasukkan tangki bahan bakar yang lebih besar serta desain body yang sama sekali berbeda. Bagian rangka yang paling dikenal adalah bagian ekor alumunium yang menyapu ke atas dan kembali di bawah kursi two-up. Pada 1999, X1 Lightning dianugerahi “Motorcycle Of The Year” di Jepang.

     The X1 Lightning was the successor to the S1 Lightning line. They all used the Thunderstorm heads, fuel injection (Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection) and incorporated larger fuel tanks as well as completely different body designs. The most recognizable frame piece was the brushed aluminum tail section that swept upward and back underneath the two-up seat. The 1999 X1 Lightning was awarded motorcycle of the year in Japan.

XB9S & XB12S Lightning (2003-2010)

XB12S Lightning

      XB9 pertama memiliki kapasitas mesin 985cc (60.1 cu in), kemudian XB12 memiliki kapasitas mesin 1.203cc (73.4 cu in).

      Sebelum XB pertama dijual ongkosnya membengkak lebih dari target, yang mengarah ke peningkatan harga jual dari harga asli $ 7995 sampai $ 9995. Itu adalah sepeda yang populer, tetapi tidak pernah terjual seperti yang diharapkan oleh departemen pemasaran Harley-Davidson, antara lain disebabkan harga lebih tinggi secara signifikan.

       The first XB9 engines had a 985 cc (60.1 cu in) displacement, the later XB12 engines had 1,203 cc (73.4 cu in). 

       Before the first XB was sold, the cost was well over the target, leading to a sales price increase from the original price of $7,995 to $9,995. It was a popular bike, but never sold as Harley marketing departments expected volume, partly due to the significantly higher price.

     Buell introduced the XB frame in the 2002 Firebolt XB9R sportbike. The Firebolt XB12R was introduced in 2004 and was initially sold alongside the smaller displacement Firebolt XB9R. The Lightning came in 2003 and was marketed by Buell as a streetfighter motorcycle.

      Lightning also has several other variants such as the Lightning City X, Lightning Long, and Lightning Super TT (Supermoto models).
